Final comments on Recife`s bathhouses from my July 2008 trip. First, a correction, Boa Viagem is not a city, but Recife`s upscale, beachfront neightborhood where most noveau-riche locals live. Blue Thermas is the best laid-out of the four bathhouses in town, but it misses sorely a maze or dark room where people can get some real action. Lights need to be dimmed badly. Rent boys are the hottest in town, but who cares, locals are so shy I never see any of the boys getting clients anyway. Steam room and dry sauna are way too hot and, again, there are too many TVs on regular channels. Patrons seem to be looking for love since twice I have to endure very boring conversations with guys who didnt want just to have fun but to know people better (I thought to myself it'd be easier if people were fully clothed and not spotting a hard-on frequently). But definitely, patrons are the hottest men, to my taste, some of them even eager to actually have fun. Its hit-or-miss, but the place seems best on certain weekdays after 6pm. On weekends, there is a lot of posing, showering, and taking naps on the...dark air-conditioned lounge?! I was having fun there once when a guy started snoring. I swear! At any given time, there'll be more guys talking at the bar than fucking. I think it's just the local ways you have to deal with. São Paulo, Rio, and even the Southern states are way easier-going when it comes to gay fun. But Recife men are so hot it's worth the ennerving wait for one to come along.
